Lightbeam Sensor

  • The Lightbeam sensor in Omniverse Isaac Sim uses PhysX based raycasts to determine if a beam has been hit by an object.

  • Users can specify number of rays and height to create a light “curtain” of lightbeam sensors.

See the Isaac Sim Conventions documentation for a complete list of Omniverse Isaac Sim conventions.

Isaac Example

  • Lightbeam Sensor Example: Isaac Examples > Sensors > Lightbeam

To run the example:

  1. Go to the top menu bar and click Isaac Examples > Sensors > Lightbeam.

  2. You should now see a window containing empty data for each lightbeam, which will be populated with data once you press play. It will show if each beam was hit, the linear depth of the hit, and the exact hit position in xyz.

  3. Press the PLAY button to begin simulating.

  4. Press SHIFT + LEFT_CLICK to drag the cube or sensor around and see changes in the readings.
