Live Edit Service#

Live Edit lets multiple users collaborate on Omniverse scene layers in a shared live session. Clients publish layer edits, subscribe to changes, and exchange presence and peer messages. Sessions are associated with a base asset address served by the Storage Service.

The service exposes the nvidia.omniverse.live.v1alpha.LiveService gRPC API. It has no REST editing API. Clients need Live Edit protocol support; installing the service alone does not enable collaborative editing in an arbitrary USD application.

Service replicas share live state through Valkey and do not require session affinity. Valkey is the authoritative live store, not an expendable cache. Optional checkpoints in a separate storage backend support recovery if live state is lost. These checkpoints protect live session data; they do not replace the application’s workflow for saving or merging edits into the base asset.

Deployment and operation#

  • Deployment — prerequisites, authentication, durability, Helm installation and validation.

  • Backing store — Valkey requirements, connection modes and persistence.

  • Operations — sizing, monitoring, recovery and configuration changes.

The deployment guide targets the 0.1.1 service and chart release. Use the matching chart and container supplied for that release.
