Variant Presenter

The Variant Presenter provides a menu to view and manage variants and variant groups. There are two display modes that can be accessed from the top of the panel, Prims and Groups.

In any supported Kit based App, the Variant Presenter can be installed and enabled via the Extension Manager. Simply search for Variant Presenter, then install and enable the extension.

Once enabled, the Variant Presenter can be accessed by selecting Tools > Variants > Variant Presenter.

Features Supported

  • Works with all prim types, including instanceable, referenced, and payloads.

  • Supports undo and redo of operations (see limitations below.)

  • Locked variants can be saved to the stage and retained between sessions.

Limitations

  • Undo and redo operations on actions that change a variant set’s group membership do not trigger a stage event, so the list will not automatically reload and must be manually refreshed.

  • Since the order of variant set items in each group is managed by the USD collection, variant sets cannot be freely reordered. The most recently added item will always be placed at the bottom of the list.

  • Currently, groups cannot be added to other groups.

  • In large scenes, USD Collections operations (adding, removing, renaming, etc) will cause a momentary hitch in performance.
