Learn the Fundamentals#
When developing a Kit-based Omniverse application, you can start with the USD Explorer template and customize it to address your specific project requirements. The template comes equipped with standard functions that you can take advantage of in your applications to assemble, navigate, and review large industrial datasets like factories and warehouses with data from various 3D applications.
Before you get started with aggregating your data and preparing it for review, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the standard functions of the Omniverse USD Explorer template application and understand the two user modes: Review and Layout.
User Modes#
Review Mode is for users of your application who need to navigate large scenes in order to review, mark up, and analyze industrial facilities. By default, scenes in your application will open in Review mode with a simplified interface that allows you to focus on the scene. This is where you will find navigation functions like Orbit and Teleport, as well as annotation tools including Markup, Waypoint, Measure, Section, and Screenshot.
Layout Mode is designed for power users of your application who assemble large scenes, execute changes, and layout and optimize the space. The interface in Layout mode offers many powerful options, with more extensions exposed to enable users to assemble and aggregate data, import from various sources, and add assets and materials.
