Prerequisites

This section describes the general prerequisites and some general preparatory steps that must be addressed before proceeding with the deployment.

Before You Begin

  • Software
    • Omniverse Software

    • (EULA)

    • NVIDIA RTX Virtual Workstation (vWS) Software and License

    • VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus

    • Teradici Cloud Access Software

  • Hardware
    • NVIDIA Certified Server with NVIDIA A40

    • NVIDIA Mellanox CX-6 LX 10G/25G

Building an Evaluation Plan

To be successful, we highly recommend you start with an evaluation plan consisting of the following:

  • List of your business drivers and goals

  • List of all the user groups, their workloads, and applications with current, and future projections in consideration

  • Current end-user experience measurements and analysis

  • ROI / Density goals

Workload and Topology Overview

It is critical to ensure that the workloads and workflows are understood and validated as they are a critical factor in determining the best profile and sizing to utilize within the entire environment. The reference architecture in this document outlines a workflow with 3x Creators / Designers, 1x Reviewer, and 1x End Client as users across the various VMs. Your specific environment will differ so a POC (Proof of Concept) is critical to ensure that the performance is acceptable for your set of users.

You will find a few roles identified in the topology and you can find their short descriptions below.

Spectator
Omniverse View

Oversee all aspects of the design and construction process of a building project, from developing and
reviewing building plans.

Omniverse Reference Build

These recommendations are meant to be a guide. The most successful customer deployments start with a proof of concept and are “tuned” throughout the lifecycle of the deployment. Beginning with a POC enables customers to understand the expectations and behavior of their users and optimize their deployment for the best user density while maintaining required performance levels. Continued maintenance is important because user behavior can change over the course of a project and as the role of an individual changes in the organization. A design user that was once a light graphics user might become a heavy graphics user when they change teams or are assigned a different project. Management and monitoring tools enable administrators and IT staff to ensure their deployment is optimized for each user.

Preparation for Pre-Installation

Before you install NVIDIA vGPU software:

  1. Determine how vSphere will run on the physical hosts. Consider booting from a thumb drive, as this is an Early Access build.

  2. Download and install any of the following for SSH and SCP:

  3. An SSH tool (such as PuTTY) and an SCP tool (such as WinSCP)

  4. MobaXterm, which handles both SSH and SCP functions

  5. Set the BIOS on the physical hosts as appropriate. See 1.3.6, Server BIOS Settings on page 11.

  6. Install Virtual Clone Drive or a similar tool to mount and un-mount ISO images easily within the virtual machines.

Server BIOS Settings

Configure the BIOS as appropriate for your physical hosts, as described below:

  • Hyperthreading: Enabled

  • Power Setting or System Profile: High Performance

  • CPU Performance (if applicable): Enterprise or High Throughput

  • Memory Mapped I/O above 4-GB: Enabled (if applicable)
