Movie Capture

Movie Capture is an extension for Omniverse Kit based apps and allows you to easily render your output in high resolution images or movies in the format of your choice.

Enabling Movie Capture

Movie Capture is an extension and can be enabled and disabled.

  1. Navigating to Window > Extensions Manager

  2. In the search window in the extensions manager, enter movie

  3. Click the toggle it enable the extensions.

Once enabled you should see a new Panel labeled “Movie Capture” was added to the User Interface.

If you wish to toggle the movie panel visibility, you can navigate to Rendering > Movie Capture to open/close the Movie Capture panel.

Movie Capture Panel

The movie capture tool provides a number of settings to help you output movie sequences or single frame captures. Below is a list of the various settings and their usage.

Option

Result

Camera

Selects the camera to be assumed for rendering the movie file.

Capture Range

Set the duration a capture when using capture sequence.
  • Range Drop-Down

Sets duration values to either frames or seconds.
  • FPS Drop-Down

Frames Captured within 1 Second of playback.
  • Start

The start Frame/Second (based on Range Drop Down).
  • End

The end Frame/Second (Based on Range Drop Down)
  • Capture Every Nth Frames

If Enabled (Checked) captures 1 frame every Nth value.

Resolution Drop-Down

Presets for Common Resolutions

Ratio

Width and Height adjustments to accommodate the Aspect Ratio.
  • Width

The width in pixels of the rendered movie file.
  • Height

The height in pixels of the rendered movie file.
  • Link

If Selected (blue), width/height adjustments will force the unadjusted value to maintain the aspect ratio.
  • Aspect Ratio (Drop Down)

Selects the aspect ratio of the rendered movie file.
Also depicts total length of the rendered movie file.

Render Preset

Sets the render quality of the rendered movie file.
  • Use Current

Uses current render method.
  • RTX Path traced

Force RTX Path Traced Movie Capture.
  • RTX Realtime

Force RTX Real-Time Movie Capture.

Samples Per Pixel Per Iteration

Total number of samples used for each rendered pixel in one frame update.

Path Trace Samples

Total Number of path traced samples.

Subframes per Frame

Number of sub-frames to use in motion blur calculation.

Frame Shutter Open

Time offset to begin the motion blur.

Frame Shutter Close

Time offset to end the motion blur.

Path

Where the rendered movie file will be created.
  • Folder

Sets the path of the rendered movie file.
  • Arrow

Opens the location set in the Path.

Name

The name of the output file.
  • Frame Number

Format for Numbering Frames when Capturing Sequence.
  • Extension

Sets the extension of the rendered movie file.
  • Save Alpha

Preserves alpha transparency in the rendered movie file.

Capture Sequence

Begins the movie capture procedure.

Capture Current Frame

Captures only the current frame.

Make Movie

Begins the recording process.

Progress

Once started, shows the progress of the render.
  • Elapsed Time

How long the movie has been rendering.
  • Estimated Time Remaining

Approximates render duration.
  • Current Frame TIme

How long the current frame is taking to render.
  • Average Time per Frame

The average time it takes to complete a frame render.
  • Encoding

Time spent encoding.

Pause/Resume

Pauses the current render and allows the render to be resumed.

Cancel

Stops the current render, any render progress will be lost.
